Council plan fee, from the published tariff
R0
Councils charge a fee to assess building plans, mostly by the floor area of the new work. The calculator above uses each municipality's published tariff. Where a council has not published one we could find, it is not in the list.
How to read the result
- Floor area is the area of the new work at every floor level, including additions. Councils measure it on the plans.
- Tariffs change every July. Each result names the tariff year it comes from.
- Other fees can apply on top: inspections, occupancy certificates, building line relaxations and consents, and in some councils a higher fee for plans of work already built. Ekurhuleni charges double for unapproved existing work; Midvaal charges as-built plans at 130% of the normal fee.
Councils without a published tariff we could use
We could not find a current building plan tariff for Rand West City, Merafong City or Lesedi online. Ask the council's building control office, or ask us and we will check when we submit.
