Closing in a stoep, porch, veranda or balcony with walls or windows creates floor area and changes the outside of the building. It needs approved plans. The enclosed area counts towards the stand's coverage and has to be behind the building lines, and the new walls and windows fall under SANS 10400-XA's energy rules.

A stoep that was itself built in front of a building line is a common snag: enclosing it can need a relaxation first.
